Exceptional Coffee

In our search for the best coffees in the world, we travel directly to the source. We visit small farms in the highlands of Papua, New Guinea, and historic estates in the blue mountains of Jamaica. We purchase beans from plantations at altitudes up to 6,000 feet. Why? Because we know the higher the altitude, the more intense the flavor. The result: Simply the Best " coffee in the world.

Caring Cup

Commitment to Social Responsibility

At The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf®, we believe it is not enough to do well, we must also do good. Our social responsibility efforts blend commitment and community. Our Caring Cup initiatives support charities, foundations, and schools in the U.S. and around the world.

Our customers also participate in these initiatives through their purchases and donations. Together we respond to the needs of local communities served by our stores and the needs of communities where our products are grown.

DOMESTIC PROGRAMS

The Help Group
The Help Group is the largest nonprofit organization of its kind in the United States serving children with special needs related to autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, ADHD, developmental delays, abuse and emotional problems. Each year during the holiday season, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® donates $1 to The Help Group for every pound of Holiday Blend Coffee or 20-count Winter Dream Tea tin sold. Additionally, we partner with The Help Group on our "Deck the Walls" program in which customers are invited to purchase stickers and place them on the walls of our stores with all proceeds going to benefit The Help Group.

Support from Home
In 2007, we created the Support from Home program to benefit our men and women in the armed services. Customers purchase bags of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® Support from Home Blend or Support from Home Tea which we then send overseas through Soldiers' Angels, an organization that delivers care packages to soldiers serving abroad. In addition, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® donates $1 from every purchase of Support from Home Blend to the Fisher House? Foundation. The Fisher House provides a "home away from home" for families of military personnel and veterans receiving medical care at major medical facilities.

Orange County Adopt-A-School Program
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® created coffee and tea blends specifically to benefit local schools in Orange County, California. Each individual store selected a local school and for every pound of Orange County Blend Coffee or Sunshine Blend Tea tin sold, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® donated $1 to these schools. The donations directly supported the need of each adopted school including funding math, science and music programs, equipping computer labs and providing art supplies to fill funding gaps for each school.

GLOBAL PROGRAMS

Not only is it paramount that we provide our customers with the highest quality products, but it's equally important that the ingredients for these products come from growers who pay fair wages and treat workers respectfully. To support these principles, we make direct donations to vital programs worldwide and raise money through the sale of various products. Here are some examples of our Caring Cup projects:

Kidane Mehret Students? Self-Help Association (KIMSSA)
Founded by an Ethiopian coffee grower and his family, this organization?s programs of educational tutoring and skills training have provided assistance to underprivileged boys and girls in Ethiopia for the last 17 years. KIMSSA offers a variety of services and programs and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf?s? contribution funded equipment and materials and covered the costs of instructors for vocational training programs.

Aid Lanka Kids Foundation
The Aid Lanka Kids Foundation was formed immediately after the tragic 2004 tsunami disaster in Sri Lanka. The funds raised by the foundation are used to create infrastructure and support systems to care for orphaned children in Sri Lanka. Our Director of Tea, David DeCandia, is one of the directors of this non-profit organization. For over 7 years, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® has made many contributions to support the foundation?s efforts.

CCC Foundation
Based on the principles of Courage, Compassion & Commitment, the CCC Foundation?s mission is to support the people of Sri Lanka by providing treatment for cancer at its National Cancer Institute and by offering emotional wellbeing and mental health care support through its CCC Line telephone counseling service. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® provided funds to sponsor rooms for families of children fighting cancer in the foundation?s new CCC House, a transit home for underprivileged cancer outpatients and their caregivers.

Shree Dwarika Tea Estate
The Darjeeling Himalayan hill region?s fragile ecology has been threatened by increasing demand for wood, fuel and timber. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® sponsored installations of liquid petroleum stoves in the homes of the tea pluckers. This raised workers? living standards by enabling them to prepare meals hygienically and helped to reduce deforestation.

The Mukengeria Tea Estate
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® was the first U.S. company to buy tea from the Mukengeria
Tea Estate in Kenya. Since we began our relationship with Mukengeria, we?ve focused on the livelihood of its people. Our contributions have helped build a nursery school on the estate, ensuring the children of tea growers a safe and nurturing learning environment. Customers? donations have also helped provide coloring books, school supplies and reading books.

Bogawantalawa Tea Estate
The Bogawantalwa Tea Estate, where we purchase all of our Ceylon teas, is located in the Bogawantala Valley in Sri Lanka. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® funded construction of a community center and education facility for the estate?s workers and their families. In addition, a portion of the purchases of our Ceylon teas goes to funding other initiatives, including a library and a daycare center for the estate workers' children.

Nantou Ren-Ai Home for Orphaned Children
This home is located in Nantou County Taiwan, just a few miles away from the estate where our Taiwan Green Tea is grown. Through direct donations and proceeds from the sale of the tea, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® supports this home in partnership with the estate?s owner. The home provides a happy and healthy environment for children from 18 months to 18 years of age.
